Today I'll start with the basic inside of the foot pass and a drill i enjoy that works with all age groups. I use this as a warm up to my session, it gets everyone moving about and throws a little bit of technique into the session early on.
Technique, the most means to completing the action, with good technique the job is done!
Inside of the foot passing should be used for short passes to be played to foot. Look at the foot, the large area is what we use to control the ball and to hit the short pass. Look at this picture of Iniesta of Barcelona passing a ball for Spain.
His left foot is planted next to the ball, his arms are outstretched for balance, his is standing tall, not slouching and his head is over the ball. His right foot is opened up so he can pass with the large part of his foot.
This is a simple drill, the players line and play a pass to the feeder, normally the Coach (or another player, take it in turns to be the feeder). The coach returns the pass whilst the player jogs round behind and joins the end of the queue. The player next in line returns the pass and so on. The best thing about this is players of differing ability can join in at the same time. If a player is struggling they can take a touch. More advanced player can return the ball first time.
This is a simple drill that can be used as a warm up.
What does it teach? Weight of pass. Passing technique. Control of a moving ball.
How do i make it easier? Let the players take a touch, or two before returning the ball. Make the distance smaller.
How do i progress it. Make the distance larger. All passes must be first time. The feeder can return the weight of the pass faster, higher, to the side.
What sort of activity would you like to see next, leave me a comment.
